ABOUT US

Anchored Pathways to Higher Education is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2025. We support first-generation families and those new to the higher education system as they navigate college, career training, military options, apprenticeships, and the steps that stand between them and their goals. Our guidance is honest, delivered in English and Spanish, and built around the families we serve — their language, their priorities, and their lived experience.

This organization did not start with a strategic plan. It started with one family, one real need, and a simple conviction: families deserve clear support when the path forward is confusing.

What Guides Us

Every decision we make — every program we build, every partnership we pursue, every resource we put in someone's hands — is shaped by six core values.

Our Commitment

We are especially committed to families who are new to the system — families who need honest, grounded guidance about college access, career pathways, military options, and next steps that actually make sense for their lives.

We believe that access to opportunity should not depend on knowing the right people or speaking the right language. Families should be able to understand the system, trust the process, and move forward with clarity.

Michelle Gutiérrez -

Founder & President

Michelle is a higher education professional with more than 14 years of experience in academic advising, student success, and program development. As a first-generation college graduate with deep roots in Texas border communities, she founded Anchored Pathways in 2025 to expand access to clear, accessible guidance for first-generation families navigating college, career, military, and financial aid decisions.

Carlos Lopez - Board Member
Financial Stewarship & Accountability

Carlos brings deep experience in auditing, IT controls, risk management, and financial oversight. He strengthens Anchored Pathways’ governance, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

Melissa Meléndez - Board Member
Well-Being & Mission Engagement

Melissa brings behavioral health, social work, and local resource expertise, helping Anchored Pathways stay grounded in family well-being and community trust.

Dora Treviño - Board Member
Secretary

Dora brings more than 30 years of experience across recruitment, admissions, business office operations, orientation, and student support. She understands the full enrollment journey from every angle.
