Free and low cost training in the Houston and Gulf Coast region.
These programs are short. Most take months, not years. Some are free for people who qualify, and free does not mean free for everyone. Cost and eligibility are set by each organization.
Confirm the program, the cost, and the enrollment dates directly with the organization before you apply.
Before you pay for training
Some careers in Texas require a license, and some licenses require documentation of lawful presence in the United States. This does not apply to every trade or every program.

Capital IDEA Houston
Fully funded education and training leading to higher income jobs. Programs include short term training, certifications up to an associate degree, and Career My Way for adults ages 18 to 24.

WorkTexas Training Center
Hands on training and industry certifications in the trades, plus one on one coaching. Also runs a high school diploma program.

Houston City College, School of Continuing Education
More than 30 short term career training certificates, most taking two to nine months. Fields include healthcare, construction, information technology, transportation, manufacturing, and public safety. Also runs registered apprenticeships and the Fast Track program, which is free short term training for people who qualify for the funding.

Lone Star College, Adult Education and Literacy
GED and English classes, plus pathways into workforce training certificates in allied health, business, and the trades.
